The Arizona Chapter of Delta Chi is Officially Back!

The Arizona Chapter Chartering Banquet was held February 16, 2024

•    The Delta Chi Fraternity was founded on October 13, 1890 at Cornell University in Ithaca NY
•    The Arizona Chapter was founded and received its charter on May 2, 1925. The Deltan (posted here) was originally published in 1978, was refreshed in 2023, and summarizes history of the Arizona Chapter of Delta Chi first 100 years.
•    In 2012, the chapter had lost its way resulting in having to relinquish its charter and a loss of being on campus for a decade.
•    But on February 16, 2024, 50 current undergraduate members joined 40 alumni and dignitaries in celebrating the return of the chapter with the presentation of the new charter by Patrick Alderdice, the “AA” of the international fraternity.   (The official program from the event is also posted here)

These historic events could not have been done without a lot of hard work and team work by many…

1.    Everything starts with the undergraduate membership.  Just over two years ago some brave young men took a chance on becoming new founders of a national fraternity chapter that no longer existed on campus.     They signed on to re-build the Arizona Delta Chi presence in Tucson AZ.   The undergraduate membership has grown every semester and is not over 50 in a short period of time.

2.    We surrounded the undergraduates with dedicated alumni volunteers as a strong support system to secure the legacy of the Arizona Chapter

•     The Alumni Board of Trustees (ABT) to be advisors to the undergrads in ensuring doing the right things consistent with the laws of the community, the university, and Delta Chi law.
•     The Housing Corporation (TDCAB) who ensured our property at 1701 E First St was returned, and remains, in the hands of Arizona Delta Chi… with a mission to secure housing for the chapter.

3.    We gained the unified support from the University and IFC, who wiped the slate clean and allowed Delta Chi in Tucson to be judged on current behavior and culture vs any sins of the past.

4.    We secured the support of the international fraternity headquarters staff and officers – meeting all the important criteria to be re-granted a charter as an official full chapter of the Delta Chi Fraternity

The rebirth can only be the beginning.   We must all continue the work together to grow our legacy.     We must not only continue to provide service, advice, mentoring, monitoring and financial support…..we must recruit new volunteers from the alumni base so there is perpetual support to not ever let what happened to our beloved Arizona Chapter ever happen again

We are back stronger than ever, proud and ready for the second 100 years of challenges, as the Arizona Chapter of Delta Chi Fraternity!
